A Dialogue

Setting: Lawn, dusk, the hum of a lawn mower, the whiz of a weed whacker.

Lisa: (Pausing the tractor while still running the blade) Kendall, do you smell something? (sniffs)

Kendall: What?!

Lisa: (Yelling) Do you smell something funny!

Kendall: No!

Lisa: (Sniffing again) It smells like something is burning!

Kendall: No!

Lisa: (More insistently) It smells like something is on fire!

Kendall: (Noticing smoke) Wait! It's the lawn mower!

Lisa: What?

Kendall: THE LAWN MOWER! GET OFF!!!!!

Lisa: HOLY SHIT! IT'S THE LAWN MOWER!!!!!

(Lisa turns off the engine and leaps off the mower, the couple then crouches to examine the source of the blaze)

Lisa: I don't think grass is supposed to be near the engine, huh?

Kendall: (Poking the blazing grass out with a coat hanger) Yeah. I think that's safe to say.

Lisa: Do you know what I think it smells like? (grinning)

Kendall: Reefer.

I Just Want to Whine

I have a lumpy, ugly pregnancy belly. It's not cute. It's wavy. It's round at the bottom and round at the top and dips in the middle. I know some of that is from my previous stomach fat. And that makes me sad. When I lay down, my belly doesn't look so bad. But when I stand up, it's wavy. It's like the middle just won't pop out. I'm worried that it never will and I will be a freakish looking pregnant lady the whole time.

I start school in 3 weeks and I don't want the kids to think I look weird. I'm self conscious about wearing tight shirts. Because I don't feel like people think I'm pregnant, they just think I'm fat. I see women all the time who have these nice round bellies. Why isn't mine round?

It makes me grumpy and self conscious and kinda ruins the whole getting bigger thing for me.

To cheer myself up, sometimes I lay down and pretend that's what my belly looks like to other people. Usually M moves at that point, and it makes me feel less fat. If I was too fat, I wouldn't even feel those movements yet.

Oh yeah, and sometimes, when I laugh to hard or I cough while laying down, my belly button pops out. It's freakish...and hilarious all at the same time.

The Cost of a Baby

The baby furniture is ordered, the mattress and bedding have been purchased, the paint color is being agonized over...all we need is the baby to put in the room! After this last week's spending spree, it's amazing to me what a baby costs. Granted, what we spent on just the sleeping arrangements for our future child cost less than one month of fertility treatment, but it's still mind boggling.

I don't have a problem telling you that we were spending 3K a month to GET pregnant. We only spent 2K to get a solid wood crib, 2 dressers, bedding, and mattress. Now we didn't have to spend that much money, but we tried to look long term. This crib eventually converts into a todller bed, and eventually a full size bed. And the dressers will work well for a teenager as well as they do for a baby. So in my mind, we saved money down the road, but what if you didn't have money?

For example, my mom lives next door to a girl who is 22 and had an "oops" baby. She's living at home with her parents (who don't make a lot of money), has no job, gets no child support. How does she afford to care for her baby? Even a CHEAP crib at Babies R Us ran about $250. You HAVE to have a crib, right? Even if you don't get a changing table or dresser....your kid has to sleep! They don't give out coupons for cribs, do they? I've been around to a lot of garage sales. They don't sell a lot of baby furniture. Toys? Yes. Cribs? No. Even the second hand stores and Goodwill don't have many. So what does someone in that position do?

But the scary part is that it's just the beginning of our cashapalooza......

A Series of Fantasical Dreams

I've been trying to keep my blog entries interesting because we have friends that are over in the Ukraine right now that are bored our of their gourds who have been reading. They are searching for their future son through the government adoption process. They have to be there for a series of weeks and they tell us there isn't much to do over there when they're not actively searching. It's not an easy process and we pray for them daily. So here's another entry that hopefully keeps Staci and Damon (or at least Staci) entertained.....

Over the past few days I've been having extremely strange dreams. They all seem to morph into one another. Here are some highlights....(I'm going to take them out of order to put the better ones at the bottom of the list.) Four and five are my favorites and both made Kendall laugh out loud when I told him about them the next morning.

1. I am helping our neighbors landscape their yard. As we are finishing up, a large crowd of people arrives and they set the backyard up for a rock concert. Conveniently, their yard is now sloped so that it provides stadium seating for the large audience. A young boy steals my cell phone during the concert and is trying to text another boy that I like him. I am incensed. Mostly because I'm a grown up in the dream and that's just gross. I tell the boy this. He sends the text before I can stop him and deletes a portion of the phone number before I can grab the phone. I then spend a portion of the dream trying to find this boy.

2. I am shopping in a cosmetics store at the mall, one that I have never seen before. Jessica G-J is with me. I am looking for a facial cleanser to stop this ridiculous break out my face has been having since I got pregnant. I try various cleansers in the store. As I find one that I think I like, I decide to ask the sales woman if there is anything else that might not be as abrasive. Jessica decides to purchase something and walks to the same counter I do. She won't stop asking ridiculous questions of the sales lady and I politely try to interrupt her several times. Finally, I turn to her and say, "Would you shut up already!" She gets angry with me and I tell her I don't care and she can find her own ride home from the mall. At which point she starts crying and I push her out into the snow outside of the mall. In this dream, I am definitely a jerk but don't seem to care.

3. I am trudging up a snow-covered hill with Kendall, in my childhood neighborhood. We are running late from our OB appointment. We are trying to shovel snow as we climb the hill. While I am shoveling, I keep thinking to myself how I forgot to do my math and science homework. In my mind, I can see the algebra paper. I tell Kendall that I should have brought it with us to the appointment because then he could have helped me. We arrive at what I assume is supposed to be our house. We find a note on the front porch that Bill and Carolyn (not even friends of ours but friends of my sister-in-law) have stopped by and left us a gift. (I should also admit, they annoy me in real life.) It is a child's tricycle. I cannot mention the color here, but in the dream, it is the WRONG color based on the gender of our child, and I am slightly miffed, because in the dream THEY KNOW what we're having. We walk into our fictional house to find them playing on the living room floor with their kids. They have trashed our house with toys and leftovers from making lunch.

4. I am driving in a car with Kendall and his parents on a deserted country road. We drive by what looks like a local fair/carnival and as we are passing the booths, I realize it is a cake carnival! At every stall there are various types of cakes on display. I immediately notice a stand full of elaborate wedding cakes. I demand that we pull over to stop at this fair and immediately start following Kendall through a maze of tents. We are barefoot. It is muddy. And I realize suddenly that I am only wearing a t-shirt and underpants. I am slightly embarrassed, but also extremely fixed on getting to the cakes, so I don't stop to find pants. I never reach the cakes.

5. The strangest dream of all has to be the one where I'm in my mom's backyard and she pulls in with our second childhood dog (who is still alive but blind now) and two puppies in the backseat of her car. She lets the puppies out of the car and informs me that she has to pick one to keep. She wanted to bring them both home to see which one she liked better. As we are standing their examining the dogs, one of them poops.....out of the BACK OF ITS HEAD. Yes. The poop just pops out in little nuggets from the back of its neck, through the dog's fur. It then shakes the poop off onto the grass. I am shocked. My mother doesn't seem that surprised. She simply tells me that obviously she won't be keeping that dog then, because it has a common genetic abnormality that is sometimes apparent in the breed.

I then wake up.

In REAL news, Baby M has been very active at nighttime. Last night she/he was moving hard enough that I was FINALLY able to put Kendall's hand on my belly and he felt the little punch/kick that was wreaking havoc on my belly button. *smile*

Another Day of Listing

1. I'm in Cleveland for an extended weekend. I'm using my mom's computer that is older than MOSES and it took me an hour to finish this post because of that. Grrrr.....I need to get her a new one.

2. I went outlet mall shopping with my mom yesterday and we bought gender related clothing for the Nugget. It was FUN. I was out of control. :) I also bought my mom a Coach purse for her birthday. It's not until September, but there is a Coach Outlet at the mall and so we went in and looked. She was pretty surprised. We walked around, browsed purses, and then she was ready to leave. I said, "Why don't you pick one out that you really like. I'm buying." She kept insisting that I didn't have to, and I told her that I'd saved up all of my tutoring money for the summer just to buy her one. Every time we go and look she says she wants one. And I know she doesn't have the money to splurge herself. So we looked again and she ended up buying the one I almost bought last week. LOL! So now we kind of have matching Coach purses. She took it to work today and the girls were falling all over her. The loved it. Mom gushed to me on her lunch break about how much she liked it. It made me happy. Because she was so happy. It's times like that when I'm grateful to have enough money to spoil her every once in a while.

3. I did comment on Karen's mouse problem. I gave the brief layout in her comments section if you're interested. I told her to call me for more detail. Mice are never fun. Especially when you imagine them to all look like Stuart Little, as I did. I made Kendall promise me that our mice had big, red, evil eyes and giant fangs. Although, after finding them in my house in unexpected places, I felt MUCH better about their death. Especially once we got the trap where I didn't have to see their brains on the floor, because sometimes you do with snap traps. The worst part about snap traps is some of them weren't dead, just maimed, and Kendall had to take a shovel to their brains. Yeah, I went there.

4. I got a FREE Johnny Jump Up from one of Kendall's nurses! AND she's going to try and get us a free car seat and stroller from Evenflo too! Having connections ROCKS! :) I don't know why but I think these things are awesome! I wish they had one in a grown up size so that I could use it too! Hmmmm...just imagine that, me in a Johnny Jump Up. HILARIOUS!

Okay, to clear up a little confusion, I was being a BRAT yesterday when I posted about Mose. Yes, Mose is Dwight's crazy cousin that lives on his beet farm. I was really just testing to see how many of you watch The Office. We would NEVER name our kid Mose. Although, when I researched to see if the name even existed, the name Moseph did come up. Someone out there must be using it if it exists on baby name websites. So yes, I was being a brat. :P
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our doctor's appointment was very productive yesterday. Not only did we get to see our baby's private parts, we also got an explanation for my bleeding several weeks ago. It seems that I have a cervical polyp. I'm not exactly sure what that is, but the doctor and Kendall both assured me that they are not like colon polyps that can be cancerous. It's simply something that grew in my cervix that can cause bleeding and has to be removed at some point. The doctor told me that most likely they will remove it at the time of delivery or sometime soon after. It does mean that I could still have some bleeding, but I shouldn't be concerned about it. And it could make my cervix feel funny to the nurses when they check me during labor. When they look at my strangely I'm going to tell them it's my twin they feel and then say, "When my mother was pregnant with me, they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later, they discovered, that I had resorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No, I believe her tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown woman and a little baby." LOL!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Baby "M" is just fine though. No signs of Downs, all fingers, toes, arms, legs are there. The Nugget IS measuring about two weeks bigger than it's supposed to, with the head measuring at almost 21 weeks. I'm thinking extremely smart? Large brain? Painful to push out at 40 weeks?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I went to visit the our old neighbors today and their dogs crawled all over me. When I came home, Morrie couldn't stop sniffing my pants. He's so cute when he acts like that. He looks very intense and does that cute rapid sniffing thing that dogs do. Occasionally he comes back and takes some extra sniffs. I'd get it on video if it weren't for the fact that he'd run away in terror over the scary silver contraption.

Our other boy name

Jen asked if our only boy name was Max. It is not. I did not mention that we DO have a second boy name because we were trying to keep it secret in case anyone else tried to use it. But I'm feeling okay with mentioning it here since someone asked.

Mose
Origin: English
Meaning: Farmer of Beets
Additional Info: Dating back to the 19th century, the name Mose first appears on a birth certificate of the Shrute family. Mose Shrute was a highly successful beet farmer, thus instigating the meaning of the name Mose. In the 20th century, the Shrute family started the first bed and breakfast in the United States.

How sweet would this name be if we were having a boy?

Baby names

So here's some info on the origins of our baby name choices...since we're going to day to find out what our child will be....:)

Maxwell
Origin: English
Meaning: Maccus's stream
Further Explanation of the stream: Transferred use of the Scottish surname. The surname comes from a place name on the River Tweed, and mean "Maccus's stream" in Old English. Maccus is the Latin form of the name which might have been Manus or Mack. According to Scottish tradition, Maccus, the son of Unwin or Undweyn, was a Saxon lord, who obtained a salmon pool on the river Tweed near Kelso Bridge. The pool was then called Maccus's wiel (from the Old English "wael" or stream). The adjacent lands got the name, and the descendants of Maccus became known as, "de" Maccuswel, and, subsequently, became the powerful Maxwell family of Dumfriesshire and Galloway. Some Scottish Maxwells claim that they descend from a King Maccus of the Isle of Man. Maxwell House is a brand of coffee.
Famous song with the name Maxwell: Maxwell's Silver Hammer by The Beatles

My favorite part was that they added the coffee to the explanation.... :)

Megan
Origin: Greek or Welsh
Meaning: Pearl or Little Pearl
Additional Info: Megan is a Welsh diminutive form of Margaret, from Greek 'margaron', "pearl", and thus means "little pearl". The form may have been borrowed from, or given rise to such abbreviated forms as Meg, Maggie and Mags. It was the most popular girl's name in Wales in 2006, but fell to 2nd place in 2007.

My favorite part of this name....that our dog and our kid could share a nickname. LOL! We call Maggie "Mags" all the time! Plus, the pearl is my favorite "gemstone"...besides for diamonds of course. :)

MaryJane
Origin: Hebrew
Meaning: Mary "bitter" Jane "God is gracious"
Additional Info: A smush of the names Mary and Jane. MaryJane was mostly used during the earlier part of the 20th century, but has fallen out of fashion presumably because it is a slang term for the marijuana plant.
Famous Song with the name MaryJane: What's the New Mary Jane by The Beatles
Mary Jane's Last Dance by Tom Petty

My take on this is that I'm going to ignore the "bitter" and focus more on the fact that it's the name of the mother of Jesus. And how could you not say God is gracious for FINALLY giving us this child? And of course, you can't ignore the marijuana reference. But it's okay, because we never smoked it.

Tidbits To Share

1. Did you know that UPS routes are supposed to be designed so that the driver ONLY makes right hand turns his/her entire route??

2. Did you know that if your washer has a "sanitary" setting it will make your towels smell fresher for longer?

3. Did you know that regardless of your age, your ideal functioning brain age is actually 21 years old?

4. Did you know that a dog's age in "people years" is somewhat dependent on their body weight? Morrie's equivalent age in people years is 69 years old. Did you also know that vets differentiate between "senior" and "geriatric"?

5. Did you know that some maternity pants have "fake" pockets? Why is that? Can't pregnant women have real pockets too?

6. Did you know I'm going to the doctor today to find out if we're having a boy or a girl?

7. Did you know that I'm not telling you? *grin*

A Birthday in Review

Doughnuts in bed, meatloaf, cash, and Lowes. All of the ingredients for an "adult" birthday.

The morning started with Kendall getting me up before my alarm so I could eat "breakfast" in bed. It was the doughnuts I had picked out the night before that I designated as "Birthday Doughnuts". He also gave me a card to open. (We typically buy each other upwards of 3 cards for birthdays and anniversary.) Hoops and YoYo are definitely one of my favorite birthday cards to open. We laid in bed for a while, eating and feeding the dogs bites.

We then had to get up, clean the house, mow the lawn, water the flowers, and get lunch started. Kendall had already gotten up before me and baked my birthday cake (yellow cake with chocolate frosting- a usual for me) so the house smelled yummy when I came downstairs. I zipped around the yard on the tractor while listening to Katy Perry on my new IPod that my dad sent me this week. We came in and Kendall started making the meatloaf while I set the table. His parents arrived to help finish lunch so that we could shower.

We sat down to a delicious meal with his parents, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anna, and my sister-in-law's parents (they were in town for Anna's party the next day). We had cake, I opened my birthday cards (more Hoops and YoYo- I'm going to video tape the one card and put it here later) and fanned myself with CASH. I didn't ask for any gifts this year because I wanted a new Coach purse from the outlet mall. (Which I promptly purchased yesterday and will post a photo of later.) Kendall brought down the sweet travel bag he bought me in Vegas (it's giraffe print leather). Everyone was overly generous. My dad's birthday card made me CRY because he recorded himself singing to me. I promptly declared that I'm going to save the card forever so that I can always hear my daddy sing happy birthday to me.

The day was wrapped up with a trip to Lowes to buy replacement water filters. Kendall asked me if I wanted to go to a movie, but I really wanted my freshly filtered water again, so since it was my birthday, he gave in. :) We wrapped up the night with some late night Pizza Hut. YUM.

I have to say though, while I had a very nice birthday, I was slightly disappointed that so many people forgot this year. My brother never called or sent a card. My aunt and uncle too. My best friend didn't call until almost 10pm and openly admitted she forgot me. And several people who are normally really good about remembering these things seemed to forget this year. I'm not trying to be greedy or selfish, but growing up, my birthday was always important to me. I guess coming from a divorced family, I always needed to know that my birthday was still important. I try to be diligent about remembering to send cards to people, especially those who take the time to send them to me, but I do understand when people are late getting them out because I'm that way sometimes. So I guess I just felt a little bruised this year. I don't expect everyone to go crazy. But there are just certain people that you hope will remember. When your own family can't, it kind of sucks. That's okay, I'll just cut them out of their share of my lottery winnings. HAHAHA.

Next year....THE BIG 30. As Sarah Ford said when she called me, "Welcome to my world, being OLD!" And my smart ass reply, "But for now, we still get to say we're in our twenties." :)

A Friday of Random Thoughts

1. My niece is turning 2 on the 21st. We bought her a MRS. Potato Head. Yeah. They didn't have a Mrs. when I was a kid. Go Playskool. It looks pretty fun. I kind of want to pull it out of the box and play with it. I loved my Mr. Potato Head as a kid. And the best part? It was only 6 bucks!

2. I am sitting here eating a plate of Tostitos with melted shredded cheese on them. DELICIOUS. Every time I eat them it makes me think of when I was a kid and my uncle would make a plate to share with me when I'd sleep over their house. I LOVED hanging out with them. My aunt and uncle were so cool, and they still are. I know that they are both very excited about the baby because it will be a while before their son has any children (or it BETTER be). Plus, I know that they think of me as a daughter. It's very touching. I really appreciate how close my family is during these type of life events. I realize I was fortunate to grow up with my family so close to me. Especially when I realize that Kendall did/doesn't have that kind of relationship with extended relatives. It's just different. And it's what I want my kids to have, hence the reason we live a block away from my brother and sister-in-law.

3. Speaking of food- I'm starting to get cravings. Just a few. They just started this week. And they're not weird or consistent with stereotypical pregnancy stories. For me it's all about dreaming of the food first. I had a dream I ordered a fish sandwich from McDonald's. I HAD to have one when I woke up....even AFTER I had thrown up my breakfast that morning. LOL! The other night I dreamed about Antonio's pizza, the place we had our rehearsal dinner. Too bad that one is 3 hours away. :)

4. I am taking the dogs to the vet on Monday for their rabies shots and check ups. Because Morrie is a "senior citizen" now, the vet had listed for a senior wellness exam. I have no problem with them checking him out. They can poke and prod and stick that thermometer in his butt. But I draw the line at their request for his first morning urine. The receptionist told me I needed to get a pie tin and stick it in his pee stream. WHAT?!?! No way. First of all, what the hell am I supposed to put the urine in to transport it the 45 minutes to the office? Secondly, has she ever watched a male dog pee? They pee EVERYWHERE not just one spot. Third, there is no way I'm paying extra money for them to test my dog's pee. He's fine. He's 12. How much longer can he live anyways? If he makes it to 13, he's doing good. I love Morrie, but really, a urinalysis isn't going to tell me anything I want to know. He's old. Maybe he's dying. I don't want to know. I'm happy right now. He's happy right now. When he's not, I'll help him go meet the big guy in the sky. Of course I will be sad, and yes he's my kid, but in all reality, he's still a dog. And if that makes me a bad owner, I'm sorry. But at this point, he's happy and I don't need to chase him around the yard to get pee in a pan to know that.

5. Tuesday we go for another ultrasound to make sure the baby is developing on schedule and make sure my cervix hasn't opened at all. I've been stuying ultrasound pictures on the Internet to truely see the difference between boy parts and girl parts. Here's my conclusion:

Girl parts look like a hotdog in a bun. Three little bumps in succession on the screen.
Boy parts look just like a wenis. Yeah. There's really no doubting it.

Oh, and I'm sure I didn't mention this before, but we WON'T be telling you what it is.....MWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAA!!!!!

P.S.

Baby, fine. Mommy, fine.
I got a SWEET new driver's license photo.
If it wasn't for identity theft, I'd scan it and show you here.
Ask me to see it when you see me.
Like I said, it's sweet.
Make sure you read the post below if you're bored.

10 Things I Miss

I've been waxing nostalgic about the old 'hood lately and wanted to make a list of the things that I've been missing...I think it's because I always thought I'd bring our first child to that house. And as I prepare our baby's room here, it's just not the same. Fair warning, it's a little long....

1. Elsa's- Jen mentioned feeling like a regular at a restaurant lately and it made me really long to go to this Mexican restaurant. Even before Ohio went smoke free we frequented this restaurant almost every weekend. It was totally worth a little second-hand cancer to eat their Mini Super Burrito. Extra sour cream. Double bowls of chips and salsa. Two cokes. The servers knew us, knew our order (it never changed) and were really friendly. We always tipped well because of this. We took all of our friends and family there at least once.

2. The public library- it was literally a 2 minute walk. It was right at the end of our street. Any time I needed a new trashy romance novel all I had to do was walk out my front door and skip down to the East branch of the Dayton Public Library. Okay, and double check that I locked the door and set the burgular alarm, but still, totally accessible.....

3. My old front door- it was sweet. It was 100 years old and had this super sweet peep hole that rotated around. The new owners took it down and put up something new. Their new door sucks. Even if it does have better insulation. Because it doesn't have a super sweet peep hole.

4. My red living room- while I have a red kitchen in the new digs, my red living room at the old house was my favorite room in the house. It took 4 coats of paint and numerous tears, but the end result was fabulous.

5. My hardwood floors- again, original, 100 years old. We paid 1500 dollars to have them stripped, sanded, and stained. They were beautiful- scars, stains and all. I miss having them in my new house. I tell Kendall all the time how I want to rip out our first floor carpet in all rooms except the family room and put in new hardwood. REAL hardwood. Not laminate. We have laminate in the entry and office, and it blows. It's nowhere near as beautiful as real hardwood. I even want it in my kitchen and powder room. The formal living room and dining room too. I don't like carpeted dining rooms. It's not formal enough for me. I know, that's weird. It's me.

6. Large molding and doorways- our old house had sweet molding. Everywhere. It was huge and old and classic. Our new house has crappy thin molding. I love our crown molding in the new place, but the door frames have no personality. Our staircase has lame posts and spindles. Our old staircase had exquisite design and details.

7. Our yard- While I enjoy our large new yard, I miss the coziness of our last place. Plus, our landscaping their kicked ass. We're still very much a work in progress here. I miss my magnolia tree in the front yard. And my Japanese maple in the back. At least I stole my hydrangeas and rose bush and brought them here. They're happy here. They would have missed me and died. I know this for a fact. They told me.

8. Our front porch- We had a nice big porch with a swing. Sometimes we would sit out there at night and just enjoy the breeze and the noise of screeching car tires and police sirens. We don't get that here. It's all bugs and lawnmowers. How boring. Plus, how can I spy on my neighbors now? Front porches are designed for nosy neighbors. I'm crippled without mine.

9. My vegetable garden- we built the retaining wall in the rain and fought like cats and dogs the whole time. And then had a beautiful garden to show for it. We haven't really got a good place in our new yard for a garden. We're sharing one with Dathan and Natalie. It's not the same. Plus, I felt like I was feeding the homeless at the old place. People could take whatever they wanted because it was exposed to the alley garages. We didn't care if people took stuff. They must have needed it more than us.

10. The mice- LOL! Okay, not really. But Kendall and I do reminisce quite a bit about those stories. How many of you have stories where you squealed like little girls when a mouse poked its face out of your end table or the garbage disposal? That's what I thought. None of you. It was horrific to live through, but made for great memories and stories later.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess these are just some of the reasons why Kendall and I cried the day we moved out. Even driving by the old place still hurts a little. As much as we love our new house and how spacious and modern it sometimes is, we truly are "old house" people. My first choice would have been to live in Oakwood, where all the houses are old. But the move was necessary and good for us long term. But it doesn't hurt to sometimes wish we were still there.

Not Quite What You Were Expecting...

While these aren't quite the profile shots you were asking for, they're still damn funny pictures. I bought these at the outlet mall last weekend on our way home from Cleveland.

My regular underpants are starting to get a little uncomfortable. Now I'm not ashamed to say that I wear an XL from Victoria's Secret. I love their underwear.

So when the package at Motherhood said, "Purchase your regular pre-pregnancy size," I took them at their word. Yeah. They were WRONG.

I guess Vicky's runs a little smaller....

So I know some other people having babies and they have been posting their baby bump pictures....some of them aren't much farther along than I am and have ADORABLE bellies. Mine just looks fat right now. It makes me sad. :( I went back to when Karen was 18 weeks pregnant and posted a picture and realize even MORE when I won't post one yet- My belly is no where near as cute as hers was!

So I did some Googling to see what other people looked like at 18 weeks....and it's all over the place! Skinny, fat, it didn't matter, first time pregos all looked different. Some look huge, some look like nothing, and some just look fat like me. Then I read Karen's blog entry for that picture and she commented that she must not look that pregnant. What's funny is that I think she totally did. So maybe it's all in perspective. So it made me feel a little better. :) Good thing we've all been blogging for so long that I can check back on these things. :)

Bump

For the record, there is no bump that I am willing to or comfortable showing.

It might not actually appear on here until late August, if even then. Sorry guys.

I'm just not big on showing people my gut. Whether there is a baby in there or not.

Oh, and I'm adverse to touching. So if you see me, no touching. I know, I'm a spoil sport. But it's my belly. I'll let you know if you can touch it, don't just reach out. I'm especially worried about going back to work with this issue. Both kids and teachers don't always respect personal space.

On a more upbeat note, I think I started feeling some movement this morning. I was half asleep but I'm pretty sure I felt little movements. :) Hopefully they'll be more frequent and more prominent in the next few weeks.

The Next Samuel L. Jackson Movie

Now correct me if I'm wrong, because I didn't actually see the movie, but snakes on a plane didn't delay their flight, but I just read that ticks on a plane delayed passengers for 6 hours!

Still here. Still pregnant.

4th of July Weekend

Friday- We went to Cleveland for the 4th and the weekend. We spent most of the 4th at my dad's house visiting with my kid brother and sister. They were really happy to see us. They're growing up so fast! My 13 year old sister has HUGE boobs! LOL! I actually managed to get my whole family to sit together for fireworks that night. That might not sound like a big deal, but my mom and my step mom like NEVER talk. It has nothing to do with animosity. It's that my step mom is shy around my mom. It's weird. Even my brother and his girlfriend came. We were one big, happy, dysfunctional family. I told them they'd all have to start getting used to each other since they were going to be sharing a grandchild soon. :)

Saturday- We went to my aunt's house at 1:3o and didn't leave until almost 11! We helped set up for my cousin's graduation party. It always surprises me how little my family entertains. My aunt and mother deferred to my decisions on how to set up the food. It made me realize that we do entertain quite a bit...or at least we used to! :) It was fun. They had a ton of people, mostly family, and I got to spend time with relatives I haven't seen since the last funeral. It's nice to see people at a happy occasion instead of a sad one. There was a band and lots of food and good conversation. The cops even showed up at one point! The band had to stop playing because the neighbors complained too much. It was pretty funny seeing my 55 year old uncle have to show his driver's license to the 25 year old officer and get a written warning for partying too hard. :) We stayed late and helped clean up, but even still, we heard that some people didn't leave until at 2:30 am. Crazy!

Sunday- We stopped at my little sister's 13 birthday party for about an hour and then started the drive home. We stopped at the outlet malls and I bought several pairs of pregnancy panties. Yeah, my normal ones are starting to leave a line in my flesh! LOL! So we'll see how they fit. They lady at the counter promised me they wouldn't be a tent on me. We stopped and pick up our dogs (who were very happy to see us) and then headed back to the ponderosa. I paid some bills and wrote this blog entry. Oh, and keep my mom is your thoughts, because her eye infection started coming back today. The one that made her eyes swell shut and leak green goo the last time. She started taking the drops again today, so hopefully the doctor can fix it tomorrow before it gets bad again....

Goals for the week: Try to rest during the day, clean out the baby room so Kendall can prep it for painting, read at least one trashy romance novel, and blog about Vegas.

Oh the Drama!

Sorry I haven't posted since returning from Vegas, we were having a small baby crisis that needed to be dealt with.

While in Vegas, I was having brown spotting and cramping. It didn't seem like a big deal, I just thought I was walking too much. (Some days we were walking over 6 miles!) The first few days were were home, I wasn't having any problems. Then, the day of my doctor's appointment, I started bleeding red. Like my period had started.

I panicked. We rushed to the doctor and he did an ultrasound. The baby was fine. Strong heart beat, very active. They were concerned that my cervix was thinning. So I had to go to a specialist. They remeasured everything and didn't find any problems. The bleeding has stopped, except for brown spotting again, and the baby seems fine.

We don't have any answers on why I was having the bleeding. I'm just supposed to take it easy. Not bed rest. But trust me, I won't be doing anything taxing for the rest of the summer.

I promise to get a Vegas post up once I get the slide show of pictures together. We had a great time, we had some crazy drama there with the friends that went with us, and we didn't win big or lose big. But we did get out picture taken outside The Golden Nugget. :)

Happy 4th of July!
