What is that? A UFO? The Rorschach inkblot test? If it is, what do you see? I'll tell you what I see on Monday......

Busy as Beavers

We spent the weekend cruising garden centers and planting up a storm of container plants. My deck should hopefully look like a little oasis by the middle of summer.
The coolest pots I made...I could sell these! At least in my mind...:)

Our window boxes. I made up all 4 the same. Wait til they fill out. I'll have to take pictures then. We put in flowers that attract hummingbirds. Our resident bird, Hank, should like these.

The little boxes on the side of the deck.

We planted a clematis vine in this pot. Jessica gave us the trellis a few years ago. We're hoping it fills up completely by the end of the summer.

Our lone "landscaping" off the deck. It's called a gayfeather. It grows giant purple stalks that look kind of like sparklers. It will get HUGE as the years go by. Don't you love how complete it makes the bed look? LOL!

Guess Who's Back...

I'm going to TRY to blog again....no promises. At least you can enjoy the video....

Oh, and I posted "after" pictures. And wrote about roadkill.

Road Kill

Why have I been seeing so much road kill lately? It seems like it all started with the trip to Cleveland where I witnessed a mangy, suicidal possum bite the dust. Ever since that moment two weeks ago I've been seeing crazy amounts of road kill. I've even seen a dead dog (who doesn't stop to clean that up!?!?!) and a dead duck.

Just today, I had to see a dead cat with it's face all smashed up, multiple dead birds, and a dead squirrel.

I feel bad for these creatures. In my mind every one of them reminds me of Maggie and Morrie. And what bothers me about some of them is that they're already someone's pet. The cat and the dog had owners. It would bother me if nobody stopped to check for a tag and picked up my dead pet. If I hit one, I would stop. At the very least I would want to notify the owner so they could stop searching.

The dead duck bothered me because ducks aren't nocturnal. Which means that someone had to have been seriously not paying attention at the wheel to hit it. Our ducks are slow. And very visible. This one was white. They would only be moving during daylight hours.

Maybe I'm just hormonal. Maybe I'm overly sensitive since witnessing the possum die. I don't know. But I'm terrified that I'm going to be the next person to squish something. And that's just not good for my tires....HA! Gotcha!

The After! Where we ran out of money....

A before shot of our yard, just after we purchased the house. The trees are ginormous and the plants in between them barely grew last summer.

The after shot of our back yard. We cut the trees up about three feet and now all of the plants around them are growing like crazy!

We pulled out 12 bushes from this part of the front.

We cut down a huge tree! I was agonizing over whether to get rid of it, but ultimately the decision felt right after seeing how clean the space looked without it.

Here are the after shots of what we've done so far. We're out of budgeted money for now. So plants have been put on hold until the fall. But in our minds there is a drastic difference between all of the dead stuff and just a few simple bushes.
Sorry it's not very exciting and probably anticlimactic, but we'll keep updating the shots as we add plants. :)

I'd like to be posting "after" pictures, but the stupid weather is keeping the landscaping man away and my yard isn't "aftered" yet! Grrr.....

Just a quickie cause I'm feeling okay

Here's what our house looks like right now. AKA: "Before"
The lanscaping people are here as we speak to start ripping stuff out. I'm excited....and nervous!!! I'll post the "after" pictures when I get back from Cleveland....Ooooh, a cliff hanger. It's killing you, isn't it?!?!?!?!

I'm going into hiding for a while folks. I've been super busy and haven't been feeling the greatest with this spring weather so I'm going to MIA in blog world for a while. I hope you all understand. I plan on dropping into your blogs still though to keep up to date. I just can't handle the pressure of being my witty self for a while.

I'll come back in a few weeks, I promise.
