A Dialogue

Setting: Lawn, dusk, the hum of a lawn mower, the whiz of a weed whacker.

Lisa: (Pausing the tractor while still running the blade) Kendall, do you smell something? (sniffs)

Kendall: What?!

Lisa: (Yelling) Do you smell something funny!

Kendall: No!

Lisa: (Sniffing again) It smells like something is burning!

Kendall: No!

Lisa: (More insistently) It smells like something is on fire!

Kendall: (Noticing smoke) Wait! It's the lawn mower!

Lisa: What?

Kendall: THE LAWN MOWER! GET OFF!!!!!

Lisa: HOLY SHIT! IT'S THE LAWN MOWER!!!!!

(Lisa turns off the engine and leaps off the mower, the couple then crouches to examine the source of the blaze)

Lisa: I don't think grass is supposed to be near the engine, huh?

Kendall: (Poking the blazing grass out with a coat hanger) Yeah. I think that's safe to say.

Lisa: Do you know what I think it smells like? (grinning)

Kendall: Reefer.

Did the mower survive?!?!

Glad you got off in time so you were not hurt.

WTF? Both you and Karen have pot posts today...

But, seriously, I'm glad you are okay. Is this a fixable issue or does it need to be replaced?

There is a bracket under the front wheel that can sometimes collect grass clippings. We obviously are lazy and never clean our mower off after using it....so the grass accumulated over time and then lit on fire. The mower is fine. And John Deere is STILL the be all end all Karen! :P Don't be jealous because you don't have one.....

First of all, HILARIOUS! Mostly because I could actually picture the entire situation as you wrote it.

Second, I am still struggling to understand how the grass clippings caught on FIRE!
