A Slightly Traumatic Homecoming

I'll write about my Christmas later, but I had to write about our arrival back to our house first because I don't know whether to laugh or cry....

Entering the house, there was a strange smell. We started looking for the source as we unloaded the car. As I was searching the kitchen, I noticed what looked like mouse crap in the sink. I turned on the water to rinse it all down....and you know where this is going....A MOUSE POPPED ITS HEAD OUT TO LOOK AT ME!

I, of course, started screaming, which scared Kendall, who started screaming. I started spraying the mouse with the water hose on the sink, and forced it back into the disposal. Kendall wanted to just turn on the garbage disposal. I started crying, worried about the "poor little mouse". We decided to try and drown it. We stopped up the sink and let it fill to the top, then pulled out the stop and waited as the sink slowly drained. We peeked in with the flashlight and weren't sure if it was dead, so we did the sink fill again.

Kendall tried to stick in some bbq skewers to lift it out and started screaming because he thought it was still alive. At this point, we knew how big it was, and decided that we would "grind it". I went outside and Kendall took care of the dirty work. I guess he went down the drain, mouse parts and all.

Kendall then found a large dead mouse in our electronic trap that we leave out constantly. It's considered the most humane way to kill them. It zaps them very quickly. And it's a lot cleaner than the snap traps. Plus, we don't have to hear them die.

THEN, I was cleaning some pots and pans up and went to put them away in the cupboard, only to scream again at the DEAD mouse laying in the cabinet. At that point I couldn't tell if I was crying or laughing.

This now makes 15 mice. We don't know what to do. The exterminators tell us it would be a waste of our money for them to come out because they won't do anything different than we're doing. They say we just have to stick with it. But it makes us feel dirty...and now, very creeped out. I'm even afraid to use my sink! Stupid mice......

We were having a lot of mouse/rat troubles and I asked around at work for a recommended exterminator. Luckily, after I asked all the mousies disappeared. I really believe they'll be back though, and when they march in I'll be ready with a phone number. I would seriously call another exterminator. If an exterminator would actually tell you that he wouldn't do anything differently than what you're doing, I question his abilities to exterminate. You can't live like this...definitely try another exterminator, preferably someone can recommend. Ick. Good luck!!!!

I'm right there with the freaking out. Sorry to hear that the mice are invading. They're just trying to find a place to hibernate. I'm with Anne on calling someone, maybe a several someones to see what they can do. This could turn into a bigger problem if you let it go (like when you try to sell your house).
