Why have I been seeing so much road kill lately? It seems like it all started with the trip to Cleveland where I witnessed a mangy, suicidal possum bite the dust. Ever since that moment two weeks ago I've been seeing crazy amounts of road kill. I've even seen a dead dog (who doesn't stop to clean that up!?!?!) and a dead duck.
Just today, I had to see a dead cat with it's face all smashed up, multiple dead birds, and a dead squirrel.
I feel bad for these creatures. In my mind every one of them reminds me of Maggie and Morrie. And what bothers me about some of them is that they're already someone's pet. The cat and the dog had owners. It would bother me if nobody stopped to check for a tag and picked up my dead pet. If I hit one, I would stop. At the very least I would want to notify the owner so they could stop searching.
The dead duck bothered me because ducks aren't nocturnal. Which means that someone had to have been seriously not paying attention at the wheel to hit it. Our ducks are slow. And very visible. This one was white. They would only be moving during daylight hours.
Maybe I'm just hormonal. Maybe I'm overly sensitive since witnessing the possum die. I don't know. But I'm terrified that I'm going to be the next person to squish something. And that's just not good for my tires....HA! Gotcha!

LOL-just avoid the deer-I have been seeing more road kill lately too. I wonder whats up!!
Weird animals to see as roadkill...I hate seeing a pet on the road too. I'm one of those people who will swerve like a maniac when a squirrel runs into the road, thereby risking myself and other drivers instead of the poor innocent squirrel....maybe I should work on target practice instead :)
i can not even believe you mentioned that horrible possum! now i hear that sound in my head again!
Dude, it was the possum's time to go. He had lived a good life.
