I learned how to use the scoreboard at the middle school tonight. There was an 8th grade scrimmage and they needed someone to run the board so I sat with the assistant principal and we both figured out how to use it together. We had a great time. At one point we were both laughing so hard we had difficulty keeping score and stopping and starting the clock. I think I might have actually started to tear up. It was GREAT. And it was a really nice start to my 5 days off.
I just spent the past two days taking tours with 8th graders at the Miami Valley Career Tech Center (MVCTC). I can't believe that my high school never offered this crap! Some of it is so cool! I would have loved to go into the vet tech program or the graphic design or culinary arts or even horticulture and floral design. The thing is, even if they had offered this stuff I don't know that I would have taken it. I was so focused on going to college that I think I wouldn't have believed that I could still go to college and go to the CTC. That's what they tell the kids. I wouldn't have felt like I had that competitive edge that I'd need. Opinions? Would any of you taken the chance on a sweet vocational program?
We're heading to Cleveland tomorrow for Thanksgiving. We have to make a short trip of it because Kendall has to work on Saturday morning. I'm trying to set up a trip to hit the outlet malls with my next door neighbor that day. Any other takers? Just let me know.
I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and I'll make sure to get on here and give any juicy stories that occur. I'm sure I'll observe something crazy on Black Friday!
Stay safe!

I'd love to go one Saturday, but I'm headed up north for Ava's baptism. Bummer! I even have a sweet Niki store discount I need to use.
Good eats and safe travels!
yeah for bonding time with hte neighbor.
don't you love to laugh like that over non-funny stuff like running a scoreboard!? :)
5 day weekends are awesome!!! I don't think I would have taken any vocational training - like you, I was pure college prep, all the way. I actually wish I had heard about the child care program they offered at Forge -never knew about it til my senior year. Still, I took a full load every year w/ no lunches - I doubt I would have done a vocational program. I'm sure I would have been convinced it would be overall detrimental to my ultimate goals. :/
Have a safe drive up to C-town! Gimme a holler if you get tired of family on Friday. :)
Dude, I can picture you in tears laughing at running the scoreboard....awesome!
I know there were some V-tech programs offered when I was in high school, but I was the same with being focused on college prep. The people who I knew in the V-tech programs were all planning on getting jobs right out of high school, so the training made sense for them. On the other hand, I took 4 band classes my senior year...
I wouldn't have done a vocational program, but I think it's something all kids should be exposed to. Mark would've done much better doing something like that - he could've gone to being an EMT, then a firefighter, much more quickly.
I thought of you yesterday when we were at my brother's hanging out and getting ready for dinner...someone had Guitar Hero, and I play it for the first time. :-) I was realy bad at it, but it was still fun. :-)
Where are the crazy stories???
I was college focused in high school and wouldn't have appreciated vocational training...
