This is the first day that I've slept in past 8...and I'm on summer vacation! Sheesh! Actually, this is the first day in 10 days that I haven't gotten up and immediately unpacked a box or cleaned something. I've been exhausted! Poor Kendall has too, and unfortunately, he had to go back to work today.
Okay, so without going into all of the details, here's what's happened over the last 10 days...This might be longer that I thought it was going to be....
Friday, June 8th- We were supposed to get possession of our house, but the Romeros (the people who we bought it from) couldn't get their sh*t together and ended up needing to stay an extra night. The irritating part was that they kept calling us that afternoon promising they'd be out but then calling at like 8pm to tell us they wouldn't. (We kind of figured that our on our own....)
Saturday, June 9th- We arrived at 8am to find the house a MESS. They had barely vacuumed, their was a heavy filth on the kitchen floors, marks all over the walls, and dust everywhere. It looked like hadn't cleaned since we made the deal on the house 2 months ago. It was awful. And incredibly overwhelming. We cleaned our butts off all day.
Sunday, June 10th- My m-i-l started washing walls to discover that the marks that we thought were dirt, were actually giant gouges in the walls of our family room, coat closet, and kitchen pantry. So we had to Spackle and paint. It took us all day to paint the family room (3 coats) plus the two closets. My mom arrived that day to immediately be put to work. We worked from 8am to almost midnight.
Monday, June 11th- I had to go to work. Yeah, it sucked. I was exhausted. The best part? I got my period AND the start of a cold. Ick. Double ick. Worked a half day and then headed back to the house to keep working. Again, worked til almost midnight.
Tuesday- Stayed at the Creighton house all day to supervise the packers. They exceeded the box estimate by quite a few boxes, which we later discovered (from unpacking later in the week) was due to careless waste of space in boxes and uneducated packing. However, as I didn't have to do the packing and I didn't have to pay them, I'm living with it.
Wednesday- The longest day by far. The movers showed up at 7 to start loading. 15.25 hours later, they left our new house. Yeah. They loaded all morning. At 12, they took off for a 2 hour lunch break. We also took a lunch break and headed to the new house. When they arrived at 2 to start unpacking, that's when the hard work began for us. I did most of the directing for the movers. Telling them where to put boxes and furniture. They obviously did all of the heavy lifting, but standing out in the 90 degree heat wasn't easy for me either. They had to disassemble some of the furniture to get it in the house. At the end of the day we were extremely pleased with the work they had done. They literally didn't stop moving my stuff in until the truck was empty. No breaks for almost 6 hours of unloading. Oh yeah, and at this point both my mother and I had horrible colds.
Thursday- My mom left and then I had to wait around the new place for the movers to bring the stuff from London (Kendall's parents' house). When they arrived, I was faced with a RIDICULOUS 30 boxes of Kendall's childhood crap. I was furious. What's wrong with my m-i-l!?!?! Like we don't have enough other crap to unpack and sort through. At least we got the ping pong table though. Once they left, I headed down to help Kendall clean the house on Creighton. We cleaned as much as we could without going overboard and then spent a good hour walking through the house crying because we didn't want to leave. It was a bittersweet afternoon. We intermittently laughed and cried and talked about all of the good memories we had in the three years we lived in our "first house". I have such a great husband. He's not afraid to cry with me, and I love that. We left that evening, knowing that we'd never again step foot in our first home. Dathan and Natalie made us a surprise dinner at their house, which was very nice after a hard day of work.
Friday- Our dining room table was delivered from Arhaus. I had to send one chair back right away, and now we're probably sending back the table because it has a knick in it. No biggie though, they let you keep the furniture until they replace it. And Arhaus is all about the customer being right. They want to make buyers for life, and they're definitely impressing me already. Then we went and sold our house. It was sad. We signed the papers and handed over the keys. Then we headed "home" to wait on the washer and dryer. Let me just say, they're kick ass. How did I live without these things?!?!?! Front loaders are the way to go. We even had time to watch a little TV. That night we got in the hot tub for the first time. KICK ASS. Everyone should own one of these things. Let's just say, it rekindled the "romance". LOL!!!!!!!!
Saturday- Kept unpacking boxes and then took the afternoon off to go see the Marilyn Monroe exhibit at the Dayton Art Institute. Totally not worth the 28 bucks we spent, but we still got to see some really cool pictures of Marilyn. They had zero memorabilia though and we thought the exhibit was definitely lacking. Then we headed out shopping for a while and bought new garage door openers. The Romeros only gave us one old cruddy and sticky one. So we bought two new ones. AND, they only gave us one key that only worked the front door, so we started looking at new locks for the house.
Sunday- Father's Day. Kendall's parents came over and helped us some more and then we cooked out. Then Warren opened his gifts....and we worked some more. Then we stopped for dinner and relaxed for the rest of the night. Took the dogs for a walk and met three of our neighbors, really nice people. All of them dog lovers. Came home, went to bed, and here I am Monday morning.
Now it's time to put on some bumming clothes and go look for a couple more things we need at Target. Kendall will probably work late so I'll have plenty of time to lounge in between unpacking boxes at a slower pace. It's all coming along, but if anyone has free time and wants to come help with something, I wouldn't say no! This post is long enough, so I'll try to keep up better now that most of the craziness is over.

Okay, Those homeowners were jerks. I cannot believe they weren't done moving when you owned the house...they should have paid you for a night (a hotel costs about $100). Anyway, glad to hear it is over and things are getting settled. :)
hooray for being in your house! i'm SOOOOOOOO happy to hear it and that the movers did a good job.
30 boxes of childhood memorabilia? that's one fantastic childhood if you kept that much of it!
Glad to hear that you're moved in, even with the hard work... that's the crappy part. Can't wait to see the place!
Ugh, old homeowners suck. We STILL complain about them. I totally understand what you said about them not cleaning since the day you signed. GAH.
Good luck with everything..at least you have a hot tub!!!
