Here's one for you...
We went to Max & Erma's tonight down in Wilmington. I decided to order a filet cooked medium. Kendall ordered the same. His came out perfect. Just the right color, not overcooked on the outside. Mine...charred. Let me reiterate, we ordered the exact same thing. I obviously sent the steak back. The server was barely apologetic. It then took a lengthy amount of time to get me a new steak. By the time the second one arrived on my table, the group of people I was eatting with were over half finished with their meals. The second steak, was RAW in the middle. It was practically purple it was so raw. I turned to the waiter and said, "I'm sorry, but this one is raw. I'm not eatting this. It looks like they barely put it on the grill." To which he responded............"Well do you want me to get you another one?"
At that point I told him I was taking the baked potato off the plate and he could return the other steak to the kitchen and not bother bringing out another. He then got huffy with me and said, "Well I'm not the one cooking it." At that point I almost lost it.
He then neglected our table for the remainder of the meal. He left my potato plate and two empty glasses and cleared everyone elses plates away. At that point I asked for a manager. I told him that was incredibly dissatisfied and that if the rest of my party hadn't been satisfied with their meals, I would have already gotten up and left. I also informed the manager of the servers immature behavior. He was obviously apologetic and offered to give us all free dessert. I told him I was finished eatting at the establishment for the evening, that my server had already left a bad taste in my mouth. I also told him that I assumed I would not be charged for anything I consumed. He, of course, agreed.
The best part of the conversation was when I told the manager, "I lived with girls who were servers in college and they never would have treated a customer the way I was treated. Good service is what makes a good restaurant. Who cares about the food."

You rock. :) Sorry you had a bad experience, but i'm glad that sarah and sarah and i instilled the value of good service in your head!
i'm smiling ear to ear right now!
You know, living with servers always made me more conscious about the whole thing. Trey was a server on summer in college, too, so we often have that discussion as well.
I feel your pain on the bad service thing. My mom and I had bad service at California Pizza Kitchen tonight and I was getting quite irate.
Sorry to hear about the crappy service. Danny and I have noticed that no one can cook steaks consistantly anymore except a steak house. I've stopped ordering steak completely at places other than steak houses.
Glad to hear us gals were such a good influence on you. :-)
I totally agree on the steakhouse thing. Other restaurants shouldn't even be allowed to offer you steak. =)
