We killed a bird today! It was awful! We were cruising along at 40 miles per hour on a side road in Troy and suddenly this GIANT brown blob smacked up against the windshield. Kendall and I both jumped. Kendall thought he saw feathers in the back window, but we couldn't be sure.
On our way back from The Sub House (which btw was the CLEANEST one I've ever seen!) we watched the road. Sure enough, there was a giant bird lying dead in the middle of the road. It was kind of sad. We're pretty sure that it died on impact.
This led to series of questions for me:
1. Did it really die right away?
2. Did it have a family?
3. What the f*ck kind of bird is that?!?! (It was HUGE!) (That's what she said...)
The fact that The Office is new tonight made me feel a little better.

Oh, that sort of thing always traumatizes me. I've hit a bird once. I think that's it. It made me scream. Fortunately (?) it hit the upper passengers side and wasn't smack in my face!
random animal killing story:
My sister was driving with her kids in the car (I think 3 at the time? Maybe the 4th was born, I don't know). A cat ran in front of the car and she killed it. About brought her to tears but, of course, she couldn't bear to tell her kids what had happened.
And then it started. The youngest boy (around 2 at the time??) starts going "bump, bump". just randomly: "bump, bump". Every few minutes she's have to hear his little voice "bump, bump".
Which...interestingly, the noise the car made as the tires ran over the (now) dead cat: bump, bump.
uh. now i'm thinking about the bird's family and if it was on it's way to check on eggs or soemthing. thanks a lot lisa!
Oh, man. I hope you're not still suffering from PTSD or anything. I was getting on the expressway once and a big black bird smacked into my windshield. It hit so hard I'm surprized it didn't crack the glass.
Accidents happen. I'm sure the bird's family will get through it ok.
