Okay, now just in case you didn't notice a difference between the first picture and the second....my poor dog looks BLIND in the second shot. Go look at the white eyes. Yeah. I was obviously freaked out. By the time we noticed it, our regular vet was closed. So we took him to the Banfield in Petsmart.
The vet reassured us that he's not blind. But he does obviously have some irritation of the cornea which is causing that whiteness. She's not sure if it's just eye dryness and he's not producing enough tears (once again "typical of a schnauzer") or if it's a secondary condition to something more serious like diabetes or thyroid issues (ALSO "typical of schnauzers"). So we have to take him to his normal vet on Monday to get a bunch of lab work done.
We've got two salves that we have to rub into his eyes 4 times a day that she says will clear up the problem, at least temporarily. When I asked her if he would go blind, she said probably not. PROBABLY. OMG. She said that right now it's like he's looking at everything through wax paper.
Go get a sheet of wax paper. Can you see anything through it? I couldn't! So it's basically like he can see light and shape?!?!?! He can obviously see a little more than that because he doesn't trip on the stairs and he can definitely see treats, but still. Wax paper?!?!?
This was just another reminder that my dog is getting old (he'll be 11 in May) and that one day he is going to die. I know, we're all going to die one day. But it's something we don't really think about on a day to day basis. These dogs are my kids. Esp because of all of the things we've gone through to try and have one. The idea of one of them dying anytime soon freaks me out. THIS SUCKS.

Poor puppy!!! *hugs Morrie* It's so hard watching beloved pets suffer...I know what you mean about them being "children." It sounds like you are doing everything you can to help him...you are good doggy parents.
We are constantly reminded of our Willie's mortality - his FIV keeps us paranoid every time he takes longer to get over a cold, loses a couple of ounces, or anything like that. I hope Morrie improves very soon, both for his sake, and for you guys as his "parents" :-)
poor moorie!! he's so cute i dont' want him to be sick!
Poor morrie. Sorry to hear that he's not well. Puppy hugs and pets that he'll get better soon! :-)
