Vacation

Going on vacation for the next 10 days. On the blogging agenda when I get back....

1. Weird Al concert last night- AWESOME!
2. How many time Dathan and Natalie fought in 10 days
3. All the cool crap that I bought, saw, or did.
4. What it's like to officially be living like rockstars.

Karen better have that damn baby while I'm gone too! Othewise, she's going to be really miserable! Sorry Nicole, but I'm friends with your mommy first. =)

Happy 4th of July to all!

OINK!

I was driving along the highway today and saw a truck full of piglets! After speaking with Kendall I felt better about it because he assured me that they don't kill baby pigs for food (like veal). Now even if he was lying to me, please don't try to set me straight. I like the idea that they were all on their way to a nice farm. Where it was sunny. And they could run in the fields. Not some type of "pig plantation" where they are cramped together and force fed.
I also told Kendall I wanted one as a pet. He didn't like that idea too much. I promised to not let it sit on the furtniture. I still didn't win.

I Have Pepper Up My Nose

This is Carl. He is our resident cardinal. Since we moved in, we've seen him almost every day. Some days he comes and sits on the deck. Come days, he's out in the yard. Once we started seeing him on a regular basis, we decided he needed a name, hence "Carl". He also has a mate who we see every once in a while. We named her Carlita. I assume we don't see her as often because she is barefoot and pregnant in his little cardinal kitchen. Carl is a beast. He scares many of the other birds away. We love Carl. He is currently our second favorite neighbor, right behind the Showalters who brought us cookies the first week we were here.

This is my niece, Annaliese. She has just finished eatting the pasta bake I made for the graduation party. She obviously has excellent taste and was extremely pleased with the food. She also loved my homemade garlic bread. You note the messy face made from cramming in the delicious pasta at excessive speeds. Also, you should note that she is appaulding my culinary skills.
Yes, I am in a strange mood today. I think the pepper did it.

Pictures and a Party

So, the first picture is of me and one of my favorite students. She'll remain nameless, since this is blogger and I don't want anyone to stalk her. Or me for that matter.
We had Kendall's graudation ceremony on Saturday. We had the biggest crowd by far. Two tables of people. My mom, Kendall's parents, his grandparents (all the way from South Dakota), Dathan, Natalie, Annaliese, and our friends Jessica and Aaron. It was a great brunch and a relatively short ceremony. Here's a picture in contrast: Fat and Skinny. I feel so chunky next to Jessica's skinny frame! PS- I had to wear that sweater because my dress didn't exactly work out the way I thought it would with a strapless bra. Yeah, I was totally boobing out and had no time to change!

Here is my SEXY husband with his award of the afternoon. He won the H.R. Bath Family Physician Award. His name is on the plaque and he got a 500 dollar check! Bascially he won it for being the most caring, compassionate physician of his year. He also won a similar award in medical school. I am EXTREMELY proud of my husband. His colleage had this to say about him, "Kendall is the perfect doctor." I almost cried! All of the faculty gushed over him and talked about how he challeneged them to be better doctors. Even his handwriting (his one weakness according to his evaluations) made him a perfect doctor! I was puffed up with pride. (And psyched that we got a 500 dollar check!)
I had to get in one shot of the two of us rom that day. While I think my own hair looks icky, and I definitely need to whiten my teeth, I think my husband looks amazing and I'm so proud of him! I just had to add one last shot of that day!

This is a picture of the cupcakes that my coworker Noreen brought to Kendall's party on Sunday. Her daughter made them and Kendall and I thought they were so clever!!!! The "pills" are actually Good-n-Plenty (sp?) and there are also gummy Lifesavers. Plus, they were DELICIOUS! We should have had her make the sheet cake too! This girl needs to start a cake business! They were made from scratch. If you were there and didn't have one, you missed out!
My dear, sweet husband allowed me to take the picture of him with the plastic hat that came off his cake. LOL! We had about 60 people over to the house yesterday. We made way too much food, but I think everyone left full. We begged people to eat seconds, thirds and fourths! We were even able to pawn off some "doggie bags" on the few friends that stuck it through to the end. We had people from all walks of our lives in attendance. High school, college, medical school, residency, church, new job, new neighbors, old neighbors. It was awesome! And I didn't get to eat anything but a hotdog because I was so busy talking to people for 5 hours! I think I managed to chat with everyone for at least a moment. It was great. I felt bad we didn't get to spend more time with people individually, but we promised everyone that we would have smaller gathering sometime soon so we could all have more fun. Everyone loved our house and said it was very beautiful. It was extremely flattering and it made all of the hard work feel worth it.

What do our friends think of us? This is the booze that we got as both graduation and housewarming gifts! We can't wait to try each of them, and hopefully invite the people back who gave them to us! We also got some other really fun gifts including a candle set, a "chicken chucker" (you have to see it, it's so cool!), a gift certificate to the Fraze pavilion from our realtor, a certificate for dinner and games at the Williams's (which we can't wait to redeem!), and a Wii game from Karen and Jim! We almost want to wait to crack it open until they can play it with us! We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our friends, especially since we didn't really expect anything!

And here we are at 10pm that night. Exhausted but happy. We really had a great time and I wish I had more pictures of our friends to share with you! I'm hoping that other people took pictures that I can get copies of. It was a great time and totally worth the effort. I'd love to do it again....but maybe not for a long time! And maybe someone else can plan it and make all the food!

Thursday Thirteen- On Summer Vacation!

Thirteen Things That I Did on a Typical Day of Summer Vacation

1. I saved my husband from being late to work by waking up at 6AM and saying, "Honey, don't you need to get up?" Which turned my husband into a maniac.
2. I slept in until 11 and it felt GREAT!
3. I unpacked our childrens books. Some old some new, all really cool.
4. I finished a trashy romance novel.
5. I folded laundry.
6. I posted a new template for my blog.
7. I organized the guest bathroom for my brother and his girlfriend. They're coming down on Saturday for Kendall's graduation.
8. I found a cool new toothbrush holder for our bathroom at Meijer for 5 bucks!
9. I watched Jeopardy and got almost half of the answers right!
10. I tried to hang some pictures by myself...it didn't work.
11. I unpacked the last of our clothes.
12. I successfully avoided taking a shower.
13. I took the dogs for a nice long walk, where Morrie proceeded to poop 9 times! It was stinky!

See, this is what happens when you're on summer vacation and your husband doens't come home! He's stuck at the hospital an hour away waiting to deliver someone's baby! Hopefully this means he'll get the afternoon off tomorrow!

The house is mostly ready....I think. I'm going to run out and get a few last minute things today and then tonight Kendall and I will begin the process of hanging some of the pictures and such.

I mentioned the Kipps yesterday, I added their blog to my links. I didn't even realize Laura had started a blog! She never told me! She posted some pictures of Ella and talked about her delivery. For those of you that don't know, Ryan and Laura lost a son during pregnancy in March of '06. (I hope they don't mind me saying that here.) It's one of those things you don't know what to say to, but Laura and Ryan were so strong and brave. To finally see them with their baby girl, it's beyond words. It makes me cry to just think about it. Because they are exactly the type of people who will make great parents. It just gives me hope that Kendall and I might some day have our own biological baby. When I see what the Kipps went through and then to see their baby girl, it's just amazing. Congrats Ryan and Laura! And if you guys have a minute, check out their link! They're pretty funny people and I know I laugh out loud, especially at their pictures!
